Readers' Responses:

- What an amazing story, and very well told. I found it difficult to put down. It was quite moving in places, and even thrilling at others (the chapter on the Cretiers' escape from Rossum was like something out of a movie - amazing that it actually happened).

- I just finished reading the book "The Little Coat" and found it to be a very good story and one worth reading for many people of my baby boomer generation. The children of the 1950's and forward have not seen the cruelties of war or the hardships that the people of the occupied countries and our soldiers had to endure. Please pass on my thanks to Mr. Buick for taking the time to create this book and also to your publishing house for printing this story. Hopefully the Elliott's continue to enjoy life together!

Author Alan J. Buick was invited by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to attend a private reception in Ottawa on April 22 to honour veterans who liberated the Netherlands 65 years ago from its Nazi occupiers. Dutch Ambassador Wim Geerts paid tribute to the little coat in his speech to the veterans and Alan was also interviewed for a Dutch documentary being filmed about Bob and Sue Elliott and the little coat that Sue (Sussie Cretier) received from the Canadian soldiers in December 1944.

Alan Buick described his experiences in Ottawa as "some of those memorable moments that will be treasured forever. I can't describe the emotion I felt to see the little coat displayed with such honour. I was able to thank the museum on behalf of Bob & Sue Elliott for the magnificent job they did of restoring Sue's most prized possession and giving it a rightful place in history."
